Real Estate Price Per Square Foot: How Does Chicago Compare to the World? [Infographic] by Harold Wi

SpringView Investments invests in single-family homes throughout the United States, with a current emphasis in properties in the Chicago metropolitan area.

One factor we look at when we search for the best price point to buy is the price per square foot. A higher price per square foot may make it challenging to set rental prices high enough for a profit.

So how does Chicago compare to the world? Pretty good, turns out.

In the United States, Chicago’s home price per square foot of $158 was also the median price per square foot for country. New York City was the highest, at $1,768 per square foot; Phoenix, AZ and Houston, TX were the lowest major metro areas at $79 and $54 per square foot., respectively. By contrast, outside of the U.S., Paris ranked the highest at $3,287 per square foot.
