Ten Questions About the 1031 Exchange [Interactive Quiz]

The National Association of Realtors, in their publication RealtorMag, recently offered up a quick 10-question quiz about the 1031 Exchange.

Section 1031 of the Internal Revenue Code, helps real estate investors defer capital-gains taxes by reinvesting proceeds from the sale of a business or investment property.

Do you know, for example, what kind of properties qualify for a "like-kind" exchange? Do you have any idea how many days from the closing date of your property's sale you have to identify a replacement property? Do you know what the term "boot" refers to in an exchange?

The quiz was developed by RealtorMag and Miami-based Bayview Financial Exchange Services.
